For this project the brief was to create a piece of work that centered round a disaster big or small/personal or global.
Seeing as i have a keen interest in music and regularly head out to clubs i made my disaster about a club called plastic people on curtain road over east london that i check out on a regular basis and is under threat of being closed down. With so many clubs in London under threat of closure i thought this was a disaster that connected to people who know the club and what the music that is played there was trying to do.
In order to create the A5 landscape booklet i had to do some more research about the club, finding out who wanted to close it down, why they wanted to close it down, the feelings of the other club goers and what there opinion was, dj's and producers opinions and why the club meant so much to so many people. I included familiar images from the club such as the red/orange light that sits above the DJ booth, the broken plastic people sign above the entrance that reads pla people, all the familiar sights that people associate with the club so when they see the information booklet it it immediately connects with the vibe of the club.
Along side the information booklet is a blog that we had to create with breaking news about the disaster as well as a 15 second infomercial.

With all this information i was then able to create an informative piece of work that supported the club and what it stood for as well as information on how the general public could help.

House Of Mirrors
For this project we had to look at how how we had shaped the home we live in, and how they were a reflection of us, the objects that surrounded us were objects of our life.
The idea must be communicated graphically to allow it to be owned and accessed by others.

The idea must be communicated graphically to allow it to be owned and accessed by others.
With all this in mind i planned to make a book that combined illustrations of the objects and spaces around me that are put into to order of the significance they have to me. Three words then accompany each drawing giving the viewer a way of understanding how each each object or space connects to me as a person.
Music
passion, dance, expression
My corner
home, comfort, peace
Clothes
identity, individuality, trend

This was the final out come

Typo Diary
For this project the brief was to create a diary of things you find, with a personal response to typography we find in every day life that could be discovered through lettering, layout, design and process in our immediate environment. For this I documented the typography i come across on my way to to work looking at typefaces and how particular type was used for different signs.
From this the second part of the project was to consider a narrative and think about how people would read the piece. As a result i wanted to work with illustrated images and text and combining the two together. As a keen music lover and regular gig goer i illustrated 4 venues i had been to combining the tickets from the events i had been to.
The tickets all document, place, time, date and band i was going to see on that day acting as a diary communicating to the viewer what i was doing at that point in time.

Quotes Typography Poster
Based on the quote i received by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon "La propriété, c'est le vol" (all property is theft) i went on to research the person who said it and to create a poster that reflected the research i had found about Pierre-Joseph Proudhon.
Proudhon was a french MP who was the first person to call him self an anarchist. Based on this finding i wanted to reflect the nature of what he said and the ideologies and sentiment that the quote and Proudhon reflected.
Although the quote was said in the 1840's i wanted to show how the context of the quote related to communist Russia. I looked at fonts that i thought were quote strong and bold, ones that resembled russian fonts from the time, as well as, fractured and stenciled fonts relating to the turbulent and fractured society and the anarchic ideologies people took up in the name of communism.

Out of these fonts then experimented using them on the poster format and seeing how they worked with colour.

I chose the red and black to represent the colours of the communist party so it was in keeping with the quote and the font so the the communist movement is conveyed on each level.
This is my final design

As part of the project i also designed a poster advertising the quotes exhibition. For this i wanted to experiment with type and cutting up letters.

The recipe book & small ads
For this project I had to design a private ad for hi-fi equipment as well as designing a new way for recipes to to be followed.
To tackle the recipe project i sketched out various methods that recipes could to be displayed, this included using velcro, mini tv screens, projectors, magnets etc etc.
The most covenant method out of the ones i had thought of was the idea to use magnets. This way the recipe could be printed on to a magnet and stuck to a magnetic surface in the kitchen, which could be the work top, fridge, cupboards a magnetic paint could even be applied to a surface to attach the recipe.
With this in mind and the products available i was restricted to working on an a4 format.

This was the final design i settled on

As well as the recipe project i also had to design a small ad that had been taken from a hi-fi magazine and turn it in to a "Opera Oratorio of great typographic importance".
I selected the ad i wanted to use and then set about constructing a type that flowed and linked as one whole piece, this would then make the the name of the piece stand out amongst others and make it recognizable.

With the construction of the type completed i then experimented with various different colors and combinations

From various experiments and color combinations i decided to go with this version, i was pleased the way the letters sat out from the grey background and the white and black linking in with the colors used on hi-fi wiring.

From this design however i have re designed the the look and layout of the ad adding an element of illustration to the the design to make the ad more inviting and appealing to the viewer.

Circus of Sound
The brief was to create a typographic house style to identify the branding label "circus of sound" and a series of related typograms or typographic only identities for each of the 11 first titles in the series.
Circus of sound is a project that aims to bring new music to young people, based on the works of contemporary performers, as well as a mix of rediscovered composers from previous centuries.
I done some research into a few house styles with a particular collection of cd's standing out from the rest called "back to mine". All the cd's in the collection had a very distinctive highly recognizable illustration on each front cover that all kept a similar style.
Another example i quite liked was from the Guardian news paper that had a coupon book for money off the guardian for different days. To distinguish between each different day they kept the same font but had a box of different colors for each different day surrounding the font.
These are a few logo designs i started working on

I also started designing the cd covers. I wanted to keep the design modern and contemporary, in keeping with the circus of sound ideal that wanted to company to appeal to a younger audience.

These are a few of the final designs i decided to use.

Jacob the jeweler
From the crystal ball of doom i picked out the jacob the jeweler who designs and makes expensive watches for a lot of rappers in America. These watches are covered in diamonds and gems and sell from $25,000 upwards.

After doing a bit of research into jacob the thing that stuck out to me was in nearly every photograph I found of him he was always showing off one of his watches with numerous celebrities. In response to this i decided to take my own spin on this character and bling up a wall clock that can be worn round your neck. I wanted to show just how ridiculous i thought these clocks were. I set up a fake award ceremony background for mtv and got people to stand in front of the wall and pose with the clock.
