A thousand words

A film i saw on vimeo about so many opportunities to connect, and what would happen if you took just one.
I also like the different way this film shows how a picture can speak a thousand words.

Nothing is original

This a piece of work i found on the today and tomorrow blog. I really liked the meaning behind the quote.

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery—celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from—it’s where you take them to.”

Alexandre Orion

Alexandre Orion is an artist that has taken his method of street art down a completely different avenue, with his idea of reverse graffiti, where you clean an area to create an image, in other words selective cleaning. It first started with a project he called “ossario” a name which refers to archaeological sites where Orion sais he “wanted to bring a catacomb from the near future to the present”. The reason for this was it was pollution that and soot from cars that he was cleaning off the walls of a tunnel in Sao Paulo and actively commenting on the harm this pollution was doing to the environment and mankind.
As well as the execution it is mainly the idea that makes this work so powerful and striking and is a very clever and direct way of getting the message across.

Andrew Huang

I came across Andrew Huang's video "doll face" some time ago from a post on the wooster collective site and has since become a youtube hit with over 2 million views.

From doing some research into robotics for an illustration project i came across the video again and have looked into more of his work. His videos tend to be quite dark and play on the viewers thoughts of what is REAL, with his videos being a combination of live action, animation and visual effects.

What i particularly like about "Doll Face" is how he comments on a society that is trying to reach perfection based on what there led to believe through television.

She One

She one is an artist i was drawn towards through the addict clothing label and his she one camo print on a fabric print.

His work is a form of abstract typography that's is deeply rooted in the graffiti era of the early 1980's. What i like about she one's work is how it flows on a wall, fabric, canvas whatever means he puts his hand to. The shapes and line seem to ghostly dance and cut across the its surface.

David Walker

I have recently found and illustrator called David Walker who is part of the scrawl collective, but who was best known for the clothing label subsurface.

I was particularly drawn towards his work because of his piece call smoker which can be seen below. It is the style in which he has done this piece that i think makes it so striking. The face peers through the paper with a slightly demonic stare combined with the scrappy outline of the image. I think as a piece of work this really works as a whole and has lead me on to looking at more of his work.

Snub

Snub is an artist who first came to my attention at the cans festival over at leak street back in the summer of 2008. However it was till a few months ago that i managed to hunt down his website and take a good look at the other work he has been doing. Since then i have become a keen follower of his work and is an artist who has lead me on to different avenues of design such as the mini munny toys, which i have been designing and making watch this space for the toy's coming soon.
